The first week of March I had the opportunity to teach at the Equine Photography Retreat in Wellington, Florida. I was one of ten speakers leading about 30 attendees through classroom courses and styled shoots throughout the week. It was incredible to meet so many “internet friends” in person and to bring a sense of community to our industry.
On Monday morning, I taught a class on Posing Girls + Horses in the classroom. The retreat was held in “The Hacienda Mansion” near the Winter Equestrian Festival. The majority of the class was comfortable posing animals, but didn’t have much experience posing people with horses. Similar to my online course, I went through my basic posing flow, common adjustments I make, sure-fire prompts I always use, how my posing changes on location and outfits, and how I critique my work to make improvements.
Later Monday evening, I hosted a styled shoot where attendees had the opportunity to practice what they learned. A stunning Andalusian stallion named Ecuador XXIV modeled alongside Becca at Bocoy Stables in Loxahatchee, Florida.
On Tuesday, I brought a different set of attendees along to photograph Becca and “Echo” to practice Working with Natural Light. This location was perfect to practice black backgrounds, placing subjects in open shade, and how to shoot in backlight (all covered in my course!).
Wednesday was the final day of the retreat and I spent the morning teaching a class on all-inclusive pricing models (course coming soon!).
Wednesday afternoon I taught a class on Marketing for Equine Photographers. Similar to my online course, I discussed how to find the cornerstone to build your brand on, how to identify your ideal clients, and practical ways to get in front of the right audience with your message.
If you are interested in any of the content I covered during the retreat, I am offering 20% off all courses using the promo code “LETSLEARN”!
